TRAVEL TIPS

Tours

Getting to know the many neighborhoods of Atlanta—and increasingly the film sites therein—make guided tours worthwhile. Although historic locations often offer self-guided materials, there’s nothing like a local to point out where The Walking Dead zombies roamed, or share stories of Atlanta’s first suburb and the history of Downtown’s most beloved attractions. The best options are given by motor vehicle, whether mini-coach, e-car or trolley—all at a slower pace, of course.

ATL-Cruzers. Small tours on small vehicles—whether electric car or Segway—are this tour's hallmark. Atlanta's neighborhoods are the highlight, from Downtown to Midtown to Sweet Auburn. 160 Spring St. NW, Downtown, Atlanta, Georgia, 30303. 404/492–7009; www.atlcruzers.com. From $29.

Atlanta Movie Tours. Get your fill of zombie-trampled sites with tours that visit the filming locations of The Walking Dead and Zombieland. See the more genteel side of Georgia on the big screen with tours of Driving Miss Daisy sites, or landmarks from Margaret Mitchell's heyday. 327 Nelson St. SW, Castleberry Hill, Atlanta, Georgia, 30313. 855/255–3456; atlantamovietours.com. From $55.

Peachtree Trolley. If you're staying Downtown, this tour will familiarize you with the popular destinations there, including the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, and CNN Center. A trip to surrounding areas such as Grant Park and its Oakland Cemetery are also on the route. 275 Baker St. NW, at Hilton Garden Inn, Downtown, Atlanta, Georgia, 30313. 770/425–1006; thepeachtreetrolley.com. From $30. Tues.–Sat. 10:30 and 3, Sun. 1 and 3.
